What is the Definition of Freelance Work?
By Barry Walls • Jun 17th, 2009 • Category: RecentIf you are asking, what is the definition of freelance work, then you’re asking a question which hundreds of thousands of Americans and people living in the West are asking themselves at this very moment. This post will give you a lot of the information you need.
More and more people are becoming freelancers.
This is the nature of the economy we live in.
Freelance work in essence is work without a long-term contract.
If you think that sucks…it does…on one level.
On another level, it’s a liberating experience.
It is work with a specific job or task which is generally a one-off but which can be regular and ongoing.
One of the reasons more and more companies are looking to hire freelance workers is the social costs and extra benefit programs that have traditionally been offered to employees are now prohibitively expensive.
General Motors is an excellent example of this.
The entitlement programs from General Motors cost more in each new car than the steel.
IT CAN’T GO ON.
California is teetering on the brink as we speak for similar reasons.
In the long term, this situation is untenable and is driving the numbers of freelance workers to heights which have never been seen before.
The good news is that ultra-productive freelance workers are able to earn much more money than their employee counterparts.
SO, WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF FREELANCE WORK?
Freelance work is work which is done under a one time or short term contract for a specific job.
The best part about freelance work is almost anyone can do it.
Provided you can speak English, send an e-mail to use Google, it’s easy to pick up work as a freelancer at any one of the dozens of freelance sites on the internet if you know the right strategies to do it.
There are many stories of people who have saved their homes and got out of debt thanks to freelance work.
Good freelancers who are well trained are able to quickly replace a full-time income within a matter of weeks with regular, repeat contracts for tasks as simple as basic English writing.
The volume of work available online today through these freelance sites is expected to grow by over 80% in 2009. As employers scale back their desire to take people on long-term contracts with all of the associated costs, these freelance sites are taking up a lot of the slack.
The employers still need to have these jobs done, but they are trying to find a new way to work which doesn’t put them out of business.
Now that you have answered the question, what is the definition of freelance work, why don’t you give it a try and see if you like it?
It’s easy to dip your toe in the water and get started. If you’re like most people, the freedom and liberation it gives you and the ability to work when you like and take holidays any time you desire will be a huge draw.
There are still some spots open in my online writing course.
