My Journey From $0 to $60+ Per Article

I wanted to take this opportunity and show you that it is indeed possible to earn a substantial amount of money for a single article, even if your first language is not English. I grew up in Switzerland with my mother tongue being Swiss German. To cut a very long story short, let me fast forward to early 2007, when after a 2.5 year stint in a failed network marketing business I discovered that people actually get paid to blog and write articles online.

A particular advert to become a pro-blogger (this is a person who gets paid to blog) caught my eye. I figured I had nothing to lose and applied for the job. Not really expecting a reply – since the job posting was already 6 weeks old at the time – you can probably imagine how surprised I was to find I got the job a couple of days later.

This very first freelance writing job turned into a wonderful and long-term work relationship with my client. I think I got paid $7 per blog post to start off with. But you’ve got to start somewhere and I did. Mind you, I did start freelancing for a pittance. I earned $5/article for many months until I found the confidence and courage to upgrade my fees. Once I did I simply increased my rates with each new client until I was happy with them for the time being.

I gradually found new clients through online job bidding sites and eventually through my own blog and portfolio site of which both turned out to be my biggest client referral platforms ever since. In fact, within seven months of starting that first blogging assignment I was home free – I quit my day job for good, and retired from traditional employment to work in my own home-based freelance writing business. I was earning a full-time income. This was back in January 2008.

My business has been rocking ever since. These days I have clients who pay me very good money for a single article – $60 and with the techniques I have learned in the process I can easily earn $100/hour if I’m fully booked out.

My current aim is to take my business to yet another level by learning to implement metrics in my business. I suck at the promotional side of my business and this is one of the main reasons why I decided to join Barry’s course. I now realize that it is possible to earn a lot more than I currently do without the need to put in double the time. I’ve already gone through a severe burnout phase late last year. Therefore I now understand unless I learn to cut back my time spent working – while increasing my income – I’ll be just wasting my energies.

If I can do this, so can you. All you need is a strong desire to succeed and an urgency to change your lifestyle for the better.
